The Summer of the Pin Up Girl

The Summer of the Pin Up Girl

Soooooo, I am a real woman.  I have curves and breasts, no six pack (my children took care of that for me), thighs, no saline implants, no lipo, no nip/tuck and no ass shots (even though I am seriously considering getting some).  In other words, I am real.  Even though I am actively working out, watching what I eat, and fantasizing about my new sexy body...I doubt I'll ever look like the women in the magazines.  Nor do I want to be a size 00.  Emaciated with a huge bobble head is not what I consider a good look.  Sorry anorexics...just not my cup of tea.

**Disclaimer: Just to avoid confusion, not all size 0 girls look like emaciated bobble heads. What I was trying to express in what I thought was a humorous way is when I get too thin I look like an emaciated bobblehead...because I have a large head. There it is. I am not considered plus size, nor am I anti curvy or anti thin**

With my fashion styling and makeup courses through QC Academy, I have been immersed in styles, trends, colors and fashion.  I have learned more about my own personal style and what appeals to me.  I have also learned about what cuts, drapes, and silhouettes look best on different body shapes.  Since my basic style of dress consists of classic shapes and cuts, (and I have a real womans body) this summer I am going all out pin up girl.

That's right, all out 40's/50's/pin up girl.  Think Betty Grable, Bettie Page, classic shapes, detailing to highlight lovely lady lumps, A Line skirts, sweetheart necklines, red lipstick, polka dots, garter belts, thigh highs, and high waists and fitted capri's to cover up other lady bumps one doesn't necessarily want to share with the world.

Here's some of my personal pin up girl inspirations:

  1. This post had so much potential to be one about personal growth and body acceptance. Instead it read as one focused on proving how much one body type makes you more qualified to call yourself a woman than others. At the end of the day, ALL WOMEN are real women. Yes, even those of us who are size 00/0. (Also note: not all women who are size 0/00 are unhealthy or anorexic.) As women living in a patriarchal society, we walk out into the world every single day being told that some part of us doesn't measure up. It adds insult to injury when other WOMEN then try to get in on the "fun" by playing the "real women vs. skinny women" game. (Which by the way, is NO different than shaming someone for being overweight.) I completely understand where and why the statement originated--in an attempt to uplift women who have been traditionally left out of the conversation surrounding acceptable standards of beauty. And I applaud our efforts to include more women in the definition of what is beautiful and acceptable. But the truth of the matter is, you don't have to use language or behaviors that push other women out of the box just to make room for yourself. We can ALL be real women. That's what makes being a woman such a beautiful and unique experience. We all come in different shapes and sizes and no one size or body type is more "real" than another. I'm a size 0, I have no boobs, no butt, hips and legs for days, a buzz cut and guess what...I AM A REAL WOMAN. And so are you!

Congratulations on your lifestyle changes and on all the hard work you're putting in towards having the body you want. For that, you rock! I just hope that in the future you might reconsider the idea the only certain women are allowed to call themselves such, while the rest of us are merely "emaciated boobleheads." Define your own beauty but allow others the freedom and safe space to do the same.

    xoxo,
    Blake

    1. Hi Blake, I love your blog by the way. I probably should have really explained my pov a little better than I did. However what I meant by real is no ass shots, no saline implants no nip/tuck...basically no plastic surgery which I agree doesnt make you less of a real woman...just not a hundred percent real as far as having the body god gave you. As far as the bobblehead comment...I have a fairly large head. My resting weight is a size 6, but one summer I got down to a size 2 and looked like an emaciated bobble head. I am sorry I didnt explain myself and my vernacular better and you took offense. But I promise there was no malice intended. My mother is a natural zero her whole life and she has curves as well...and is a bonafide real woman. Thanks again for commenting...and I will be sure in the future to fully explain my meaning so there can be no misunderstanding.

      Xoxo,

      Nicole
