Florals For Spring? Groundbreaking...

Florals For Spring? Groundbreaking...

I have to be honest, I. HATE. FLORALS.  Yet, every year they pop up on the runways, months in advance, to remind us that they are unfortunately here to stay. Spring season after spring season.  Year after year.  One year it'll be abstract florals, the next it'll be little delicate florals, and then, like this year, it is hawaiian print florals.

Yet, I seriously dig these pieces from Dries Van Noten (available at Barney's) and Versace (find it at Nordstroms here or Lord & Taylor). Then again, there isn't much Dries Van Noten or Versace does that I don't like.

But, the stunning pieces are still a bit overly floral for my taste.  So in rebellion and retaliation to all you fashion bloggers with your table cloth, english china floral print clothing selfies...I am going in the complete opposite direction! (Okay, maybe not completely in the opposite direction).  I do have some understated florals...actually one...but you have to squint to see them.

Even though people usually bust out their wearable flower gardens this time of year, I personally believe you can celebrate spring with your wardrobe AND leave the florals where they belong...  IN THE GROUND.

Here are some ideas if, like me, you abhor florals:

See? You can still be bright and cheery without so many darn flowers, especially with this She Inside Blue Sleeveless Underwater World Print Dress (only $20.79!) (click here to view).  Furthermore, this dress has placid blue, sand and celosia orange, which are some of the hottest colors this spring.  SO you can be trendy without looking like a flower patch.

Take advantage of the Black & White trend that is still hot with this SheInside White Short Sleeve Letter Print Straight Dress ($23.88!).  Click here to view

Be inspired by Marc Jacobs and Dries Van Noten Spring runway shows and go for a more Hawaiian print floral. (I know this is more leafy than floral but you get it) This SheInside Red Off the Shoulder Leaves Print Dress is definitely trendy without overdoing it.  Only $29.67, click here to view

And if you absolutely MUST go floral, take a cue from Oscar De La Renta's Spring Runway Show and go for loose crochets and lace done in virginal white.

Check out this beautiful SheInside White Short Sleeve Embroidered Lace Dress only $24.80!  Click here to view.

See? Four different ways to celebrate spring without looking like flower seed packets vomited all over you!

So what is your spring style?

The Summer of the Pin Up Girl

The Summer of the Pin Up Girl

Soooooo, I am a real woman.  I have curves and breasts, no six pack (my children took care of that for me), thighs, no saline implants, no lipo, no nip/tuck and no ass shots (even though I am seriously considering getting some).  In other words, I am real.  Even though I am actively working out, watching what I eat, and fantasizing about my new sexy body...I doubt I'll ever look like the women in the magazines.  Nor do I want to be a size 00.  Emaciated with a huge bobble head is not what I consider a good look.  Sorry anorexics...just not my cup of tea.

**Disclaimer: Just to avoid confusion, not all size 0 girls look like emaciated bobble heads. What I was trying to express in what I thought was a humorous way is when I get too thin I look like an emaciated bobblehead...because I have a large head. There it is. I am not considered plus size, nor am I anti curvy or anti thin**

With my fashion styling and makeup courses through QC Academy, I have been immersed in styles, trends, colors and fashion.  I have learned more about my own personal style and what appeals to me.  I have also learned about what cuts, drapes, and silhouettes look best on different body shapes.  Since my basic style of dress consists of classic shapes and cuts, (and I have a real womans body) this summer I am going all out pin up girl.

That's right, all out 40's/50's/pin up girl.  Think Betty Grable, Bettie Page, classic shapes, detailing to highlight lovely lady lumps, A Line skirts, sweetheart necklines, red lipstick, polka dots, garter belts, thigh highs, and high waists and fitted capri's to cover up other lady bumps one doesn't necessarily want to share with the world.

Here's some of my personal pin up girl inspirations:

With all that inspiration, here are some amazing pieces I have found at Sammy Dress, She Inside, ModCloth and Necessary Clothing!

1) ModCloth Socialite Up the Room Dress $139.99
2) ModCloth Cookie Decorating Contest Bag $44.99
3) Necessary Clothing Anne Sunglasses $9.99
4) Sammy Dress Vintage Halterneck Cross Stripe Six Button Swimsuit $10.50
5) ModCloth Vivacious and Vibrant Dress in Noir $49.99
6) SheInside White Contrast Black Sleeveless Vintage Floral Dress $34.10

That bathing suit is to die for!  Plus the cut of the bottoms will hide what motherhood did to me! (smile) While I am getting all dolled up, what are you rocking this summer?!

As always, Happy Shopping!
