Colorful Summer Accessory Story

Summertime and the living is easy.  Bathed in brilliant sunlight; the days get longer, nights get hotter, hemlines rise, and you find more time to enjoy the tides.  Here's to outdoor grilling, sand between your toes, and your skin all a-glow.  Here is to Miami and it's beautiful people on South Beach; here is to the Jersey Shore with spray gel and spray tans. Here is to Malibu with it's gnarly waves, here is to the islands where Red Stripe is a must and tropical music plays.

I love summer.  Even though I am in the swamp we call the nations capitol, I still look forward to hot (humid) fun in the summertime.  This weeks flash sale is an ode to bright tropical colors, from celosia orange to radiant orchid; and pastels from placid blue to hemlock.

Without further ado:

Guest Post: Summer Dress For Your Body Type

Guest Post: Summer Dress For Your Body Type

It doesn't really matter what size you are or what your body shape is; you can always find the right mini dress to suit your body type. The trick lies in picking a dress that accentuates your best assets and underplays unflattering areas - after all that is what you want the dress to do, right!

Any woman can wear a mini dress with aplomb; you only need to be sure that the dress you choose is perfect not just for the occasion, but is also the right style for you. So, how to choose the right mini dress for your body type? Here are a few tips that can be of help.

Pear Shaped Women
With heavy thighs and hips, pear shaped women need dresses that draw away attention from this region. Baby doll style mini dresses or A-line cocktail dresses are the ideal choice. To ensure the dress does you justice, pick one with a heavily embellished neckline as it will shift the focus from the bottom half of your body to the top. An off shoulder dress or a halter or spaghetti strapped dress also works well, especially if you have arms and shoulders worth showing-off.

You can experiment with colors if you wish; pick dresses in bright hues such as fuchsia or turquoise. Just ensure the mini is not more than two inches above your knees and you’ll be fine.

The Hour Glass Figure
An hour glass figure is rare; but if you have one consider yourself fortunate. You can wear just about any design that you wish. But, if you still want some tips consider opting for a halter neck dress or one with spaghetti straps as these will emphasize your feminine form.
A column dress in soft pastel shades can be ideal for summer and spring. At other times wear dresses with flared skirts. You can carry off almost any print; so don’t hold yourself back. If you like graphic designs or huge floral prints go for them.

Apple Shaped Body Type
Apple shaped women have excess weight around their midriff; so it’s best to avoid dresses that are too clingy. You have to learn to camouflage that extra weight you carry around your waist through careful dressing. What you need are dresses with loose silhouettes that cover the flaw and trick the eyes.

Opt for dresses with a drop waist or empire silhouette as they create an illusion of a smaller midsection. Apple shaped women generally have thick upper arms, so selecting the right sleeves becomes critical. Batwing or kimono style sleeves provide excellent cover up, while still looking chic.
Avoid big prints and soft hues; instead wear shades of red, brown, grey and blue. Keep the length just above the knees, not too short. Broad belts worn tightly across the midsection are a definite no. Instead wear a sash or link-chain belt low around your hips.

Busty Women
It can be tricky for busty women to carry off mini dresses; but it’s not that it cannot be done. Big breasts can get more emphasized in mini dresses. So, you’ll need a style that underplays your biggest assets. The easiest way to do so is to keep the bodice simple – no frills, layering, trimmings, lace, beads, embroidery or sequins. Go for a plunging V neck (if you are comfortable showing a bit of cleavage) with a halter back. Steer away from dresses with spaghetti straps. Pick A line dresses in lighter fabrics that don’t cling; and wear a bra that provides ample support. Keep the length just a wee bit over the knees. Mini dresses in gold and silver are a good option for a special occasion.

Dresses For The Plus Sized
Full-figured women shouldn’t resort to concealing their size under layers. This only makes them look bulkier. Remember, to pick the fabric with care – nothing that sticks to the figure. Wrap dresses complement women with heavier frames as they can mask the problem areas. Swirly mini dresses in sheer fabric work best, while body hugging dresses will make you look matronly.

As the dress should balance the weight it’s best to avoid cuts that show too much skin. Off-shoulder dresses can be flattering on plus-sized women provided the skirt is nice and flowy. Consider three-quarter sleeves to conceal the heavy arms. Choose prints with caution, anything too busy could work as a negative.

Women With A Boyish Frame
Skinny women or those with smaller bust lines can wear all styles with élan. Bra inserts or padded bras can enhance their figure. However, if you want to stay natural and still want to wear mini dresses you must select designs with flounce on the bodice. Cowl neck dresses look amazing as do anything with a lot of ruffles or frills down the front. The idea is to keep the bottom half of your dress clean and embellishing the top segment.

Pick mini dresses that up your confidence quotient the minute you get into them. If you are uncomfortable with the look you’ll never be able to carry off the dress. It is not so much the dress but your attitude that is predominantly the best accessory in how great you look.

5 Unique Fashion Trends and Make up Tips to Look Fresh

Image taken from hotelbelleclaire.com

“Less is more” is the in thing this 2014. Simplicity is key whether it be in makeup or hair this year. Looking fresh and young will definitely amp your personality.

Celebrity stylists prefer simpler looks this year. “Simple is edgier and sexier,” so they say. Their advice is to focus on accentuating only your eyes and lips.
Here are 5 unique fashion trends in hair and makeup to keep your cool and look fresh this season.

1.      Shimmer and glitter are so last season. Tri-colored correction creams are better than last year’s BB cream craze. Heavy foundation should be avoided. Applying moisturizer before foundation or creams is the key in achieving a fresher look. You must remember that in attaining that fresh look is through flawless complexion.

2.      For your puckers, choose colors that match your skin tone. Later this year, radiant orchid and plum are going to be a hit. Dark-colored girls should consider orange and bright coral for their lips. While white-skinned girls can try matte and red.

3.      In fashion, the bright, electric shades of the 80’s funk are your best bet this year. But pastels such as light pink and blue will still make you look elegant and classy.

4.      The short and textured hairstyles of the 70s will be your “throwback look”. “We're gonna see a lot of shorter cuts from like, Pamela Anderson, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Hudson,” said Louis Phillip Kee, owner of the salon of the same name. Meanwhile, longhair is still your staple winning look.

5.      Start sporting low ponytails for that simple yet fresh look. Braids will make a comeback especially those styles that wraps around the head and looks like a crown.

You can always experiment on your looks and styles depending on the occasion, season, and mood you are in.  Make sure that you won’t regret it if you decide on changing something for good, more especially when it comes to changing your hairstyle. If you badly need a new one but just want it to be temporary, you can make use of wigs and hair extensions so that you can just remove it whenever you want.

Summer Camps for Kids!

Believe it or not, the season for summer camp preparation has begun! And I don't know about you...but after this long winter and all these snow days, I am ready for it.  This year, I do not want my son to go to a stay over camp, so I am trying to find day camps (affordable day camps, mind you).

In my search, I have come across from pretty neat and interesting camps besides your usual sports camps.

Camp Shakespeare: "During this two-week summer camp, young actors dive head first into the world of the greatest playwright in history: William Shakespeare. Under the guidance of theatre professionals, participants unravel his plays with text analysis; transform into Shakespeare’s characters through voice, movement and improvisation work; wage battles against mortal enemies with stage combat; and develop fundamental acting skills using classical theatre techniques. To culminate each session, participants stage a performance for friends and family at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. Join STC for a dynamic and dramatic summer camp experience, perfect for any budding performer or Shakespeare lover.
If you can act Shakespeare, you can act anything."
You can find more information here: http://www.shakespearetheatre.org

Mad Science Summer Camp: From the site; "Mad Science camps offer a daily combination of in-class discovery and exploration, outdoor games and physical activities, and hands-on applications of the scientific principles presented.
Your child will be able touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science is really all about.
We use simple, real world science techniques that allow even the youngest of campers to enjoy our learning environment.
Campers create, build and assemble a variety of take-home projects while exploring how science affects the world around us.

Children have so much fun that they forget they’re learning!"  Click here http://dc.madscience.org/ for more information.

Smithsonian Summer Camp: There’s no more exciting place to spend the summer than at Summer Camp at the Smithsonian, where all kinds of dreams
can come true. Where else can campers blast into space or take center stage, create a masterpiece or invent a fantasy world, or relive history or learn to shape the future of the planet? The rich and exciting world of the Smithsonian Summer Camp program, now in its 45th year, is all theirs to discover in these one-of-a-kind learning experiences that spark the imagination—and offers plenty of great fun! Click here https://smithsonianassociates.org/camp/Default.aspx for more information.

These camps offer fun and exciting ways to inspire creativity and learning, while exposing them to the arts and sciences.  They are affordable too!
